Monday March 15th Meeting at Amtrak

Democratic Club of North Florida March Meeting 2010

When and where: 7:00 - 8:00pm, Monday, March 15, at the Amtrak Station

(6:30 - 7:00 pm, light refreshments available for a donation)

Featured Speaker: Andy Opel, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Director, Media

Production Program, School of Communication at FSU, whose topic is:

"Talking About Taxes: Framing Messages in the

Tempest of a Tea Party"

The election of President Obama spawned the right-wing anti-tax populism of the Tea Parties. Dr. Opel will discuss how to fight back against the cut-taxes-at all-cost mentality of the Tea Party by exploring possible pathways to restoring a vigorous defense of the public good.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

For further information, contact Mary May at 562-0594, or mmay@fsu.edu.

MORE ABOUT Dr.Opel: Dr. Opel came to our attention last summer in the aftermath of contentious demonstration during an Allen Boyd townhall meeting on Healthcare. A photo of Dr Opel being confronted by one of the Tea Bag demonstrators appeared in the Democrat. The photo sparked a an intelligent and reasoned letter in favor of healthcare by Dr Opel followed by a week later by a hate and fear filled letter from his Tea Bag opponent, which seemed to be streamed straight from the mind of Rush Limbaugh. I’ll post both of these letters on the DCNF Blog.
